Heroes of Seville #01: The policeman

Only a few days have passed since the tragedy known as #SevillaDisaster but there are more and more questions that society is asking about everything that happened. While the government, the army and NATO have made statements that satisfy no one, we have wanted to seek answers through our means. And beyond the official version, that of the historical and epic battle of the armed forces against the alien aggressors, we have known countless anonymous stories worthy of mention. Of normal people, like you, like me, who during the night of the great tragedy performed acts of great courage and sacrifice. Today at Noticias Directo TV we begin a series of chronicles with which to honor these people. Normal citizens, police officers, firefighters, doctors, who risked everything to protect their neighbors.

In our first story we are going to talk about ‘Ramón’, it is not his real name because he has asked that we maintain his anonymity. He is an agent of the National Police of Seville. He was on duty when the attack took place and was the only survivor of one of the attacks by one of the alien ships, which Air Force pilots have been known to give the name ‘spiders’.

We found Ramón at the Virgen del Rocío hospital, in a reserved but stable condition. The first thing that gets your attention is his battered body, covered in bandages, including half of his face. Doctors inform us that he suffers plasma burns on about 65% of his body and various traumas. Although they guarantee us that his life is not in danger, they do not guarantee that he will be able to return to a normal life since he will have serious consequences.

When we look at him, we see red but brave eyes. Those of a person who has seen horror but has not sunk, but has faced it and managed to survive. His voice is shaky but you can tell that he wants us to listen to him.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING WHEN THE ATTACK STARTED?

I was on duty with my patrol partner. We were mediating a fight between a bar waiter and a customer. When we heard the first explosions everyone was alarmed. We ran to the car to try to clarify what was happening, but the switchboard collapsed. Everything was chaos.

COMMUNICATIONS WERE LOST IN A GOOD PART OF THE CITY AFTER THE FIRST BOMBINGS, HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO ACT WHEN YOU FOUND YOURSELVES ISOLATED?

We were lucky that another patrol passed by where we were. We decided to approach the river area, since the main smoke came from there. The radio was suffering from a lot of interference, but what we were hearing indicated that we were under a full-scale attack from the entire city. We move slowly along Menéndez Pelayo Avenue. We were yelling at everyone to seek shelter and abandon their vehicles. Our voices were silenced by the constant explosions and the noise of those things…

WE HAVE KNOWN THAT YOU WERE THE ONLY SURVIVOR OF YOUR GROUP, WHAT HAPPENED?

We were near the roundabout of the San Sebastián meadow. They had informed us by radio that it was vital to secure that point for the passage of ambulances and firefighters. It was then that we saw that thing descend…
(At this point, ‘Ramón’ trembles with visible nervousness and we can see how he sheds a bloody tear from the only eye he has visible. We hold his hand to calm him down.)

CALM DOWN, RAMÓN, YOU’RE SAFE. TELL US, WHAT HAPPENED WHEN YOU SAW THE ‘SPIDER’ DESCENT?

We knew that several ambulances had to pass in a few minutes; they were on the way with several seriously injured people. That thing was heading right for the roundabout to block it. We decided to accelerate and attack it. We only carried our service 9mm pistols, but we hoped we could distract it or at least get it away from there. The truth is, we didn’t think, we simply decided to act. Maybe it was the feeling of helplessness. The anger at seeing our city being attacked. As our citizens, who we were supposed to protect, died without us being able to do anything.

We accelerated and stopped the cars just when that thing was about twenty meters away. I went out with my three companions and we started shooting. Our bullets hit, but that thing was protected by some kind of energy shield. Then, as it continued to levitate closer, it changed shape. I had never seen anything like it. It was like being in a nightmare, in slow motion. Two metallic limbs emerged. I could see how the energy condensed and then everything vanished in a flash.

The next thing I remember was waking up here. I thought I had died. They told me they found me twenty meters from the impact crater. I don’t know how I managed to survive, it’s not fair that I’m still alive and my friends aren’t…

###

We leave the interview here, because Ramón is visibly emotional and we do not want to delve into his wounds. What Ramón does not know is that finally, the ambulances he was talking about were able to pass. Several fighter jets from the Air Force attacked the ‘spider’ that landed on the Prado de San Sebastián roundabout and forced it to leave the place. His sacrifice and that of his companions was not in vain, they may have bought time for help to arrive.

From Noticias Directo TV we are going to ensure that his story and that of other people like him are not forgotten. We will continue to investigate and share with all of you his stories, his chronicles, those of the Heroes of Seville.
